2019 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters: Justin Harding Claims Maiden Tour Title

Justin Harding Breaks Through for First European Title

Doha, March 10, 2019

South Africa's Justin Harding emerged victorious at the 2019 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, claiming his first European Tour title amidst a thrilling final round at Doha Golf Club. The 32-year-old overcame a spirited challenge from overnight leader Shubhankar Sharma to secure the win with a one-stroke margin.

Harding began the day one shot behind Sharma, but quickly took the lead with a birdie on the second hole. He maintained his advantage throughout the front nine, sinking another birdie on the eighth hole. On the back nine, however, Sharma started to rally and pulled level with a birdie on the 12th hole.

The lead see-sawed back and forth on the final few holes. Harding reestablished his one-stroke lead with a birdie on the 15th hole, but Sharma responded with a birdie of his own on the 16th hole to force a two-way tie once again. It all came down to the 18th hole, where Harding held his nerve and parred the hole to secure the victory.

"It's an incredible feeling," said Harding after his win. "I've always dreamed of winning on the European Tour, and to do it here in Doha is very special." Harding's victory marks the first time a South African has won the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters since Ernie Els in 2005.

The 2019 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters attracted a star-studded field, including defending champion Sergio Garcia, former world number one Rory McIlroy, and reigning Masters champion Patrick Reed. However, it was Harding who ultimately prevailed, sealing a memorable victory and solidifying his status as a rising star on the European Tour.
