A Basketball Icon Passes On

Jerry West, one of the greatest basketball players of all time, passed away on June 12, 2024, at the age of 86. West, a legendary guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, was known for his incredible skill, determination, and leadership.

From Coal Country to Basketball Stardom

Born in West Virginia's coal country, West overcame adversity to become a basketball icon. He led his high school team to two state championships and played college ball at West Virginia University, where he was named an All-American three times.

In 1960, West was drafted by the Lakers, where he spent 14 seasons and helped the team win seven NBA championships. He was named an All-Star 14 times and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980.

A Legacy of Excellence

After retiring as a player, West transitioned to the front office, serving as the Lakers' general manager for 16 years. He built some of the most successful teams in NBA history, including the "Showtime" Lakers of the 1980s.

In 2017, West joined the Clippers as a consultant, where he continued to share his wisdom and experience with the team's players and management.

Jerry West's legacy as a basketball legend will live on forever. He was a true pioneer, both on and off the court, and his contributions to the game will never be forgotten.
