Maple Leafs Hire Derek Clancey as Assistant General Manager
Experienced NHL Executive Joins Toronto
Clancey Brings Scouting Expertise
The Toronto Maple Leafs have bolstered their front office with the hiring of Derek Clancey as assistant general manager player personnel. Clancey brings a wealth of experience in player scouting and management, having previously held roles with the Vancouver Canucks and Pittsburgh Penguins.
Clancey's most recent stint was with the Canucks, where he served as a pro scout during the 2021-22 season. Prior to that, he spent six seasons with the Penguins, including a tenure as director of player personnel from 2017 to 2021. Clancey was instrumental in the Penguins' Stanley Cup victory in 2016.
Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas expressed his enthusiasm for Clancey's addition to the team. "We are thrilled to welcome Derek to the Maple Leafs organization," said Dubas. "He is a respected and experienced executive who will bring valuable insights to our player personnel department."
Clancey's hiring marks the latest in a series of moves by the Maple Leafs to reshape their management team. Last week, the team announced the departure of assistant general manager Brandon Pridham.
