Derek Clancey Departs Canucks for Leafs
Former Vancouver Assistant GM Joins Toronto
July 19, 2023
Derek Clancey, who served as the Vancouver Canucks' assistant general manager since December 2021, has left the team to join the Toronto Maple Leafs in a similar role.
Clancey was the first person hired by Jim Rutherford after he became the Canucks' president of hockey operations. The 54-year-old has extensive experience in the NHL, having previously worked as an assistant general manager with the Buffalo Sabres and Columbus Blue Jackets.
In Toronto, Clancey will work alongside general manager Kyle Dubas and assistant general managers Laurence Gilman and Brandon Pridham. He is expected to play a key role in the Leafs' player personnel decisions, including scouting, drafting, and trades.
The Canucks have yet to announce Clancey's replacement.
