Bon Jovi Rescues Family From Sinking Boat

Rock legend Jon Bon Jovi rescued a family of four from a sinking boat in Sag Harbor, New York, on Sunday, September 11, 2024.

The Sayreville, New Jersey resident was reportedly paddleboarding near his home on the Long Island coast when he heard cries for help. He paddled over to a 24-foot Sea Ray and found the family trapped inside the vessel, which was taking on water.

Bon Jovi helped the family break out a window and escape the sinking boat. They were all taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

Stop & Shop to Close Stores in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island

Stop & Shop announced on Monday, September 12, 2024, that it will be closing 40 stores in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.

The closures are part of a plan to cut costs and improve profitability. The company said the stores that are closing are underperforming and have been losing money for several years.

The closures will affect approximately 2,000 employees. Stop & Shop said it will work with the employees to find them other jobs within the company or provide them with severance packages.

West Nile Virus Cases on the Rise in Massachusetts

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported on Monday, September 12, 2024, that there have been 10 confirmed cases of West Nile virus in the state this year.

This is up from just three cases at this time last year. The virus is spread by mosquitoes, and most people who are infected do not experience any symptoms.

However, some people can develop serious symptoms, such as encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) or meningitis (inflammation of the lining of the brain and spinal cord).
